Lanterns with Secret Worlds instead of flame

Now, I'm not really a deeply religious person but something about focusing on details in nature invokes a sense of deep admiration in me.

After spending some time looking at the vast sea of terrarium necklaces (and that sea IS vast indeed) I could not help being mesmerized by the simple beauty of nature. The simplest little leaf, a wild field flower, a tiny piece of moss contains an artistic expression beyond any a mere human could ever imagine. And it's the inexplicable feeling of utter perfection that arises from that simplicity, like understanding those things in nature as perfect, whole, exactly as they are suppose to be/look/exist.

I am also not much of a philosopher, either. But an idea woke in my mind and it was so haunting that I had to try it immediately and thus, my terrarium/secret world lanterns were born almost the very instant. I used delicate real flowers (dried) and polished pieces of amethist stone among a few other tiny and beautiful herbs. The worlds that I created are fractions of magical lands from far away and long ago. (Because the concept of far away and long ago is always so romantic and nostalgic, don't you think? Funny what that says about us humans.)

The vintage map I used as a background is a print of a painting by German pilgrim Konrad von Grünenberg from 1487. These maps are handmade by Aeterna Dubrovnik, a small business located in my hometown who use handmade techniques to produce these vintage artworks. I was amazed to learn the lengthy process they go through to give the authentic history vibe to these prints so I immediately fell in love with their work. If you want to show them some love, they are on Instagram too.

As usual, the lanterns are handsculpted without use of molds, completely by hand so each lantern is unique and has it's own story to tell. The herbs I am and will be using in future are real dried herbs handpicked by me in the fields of Dubrovnik area and Dubrovacko-primorje, they will keep their color and shape for a long time. Gemstones are also genuine, authentic semi-precious stones and the lantern shape is often adorned with rhinestones, crushed glass beads and other mixed media.

Vintage lanterns are something so magical in itself but adding these 'secret worlds' makes them even more so. The idea that the 'light' is actually a unique vision from nature is very symbolic to me. It also reminds me of a certain quote I found a while ago:

“Whatever you are physically...male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy--all those things matter less than what your heart contains. If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. All those other things, they are the glass that contains the lamp, but you are the light inside.” - Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Angel

Thank you for reading,

P.S. The lanterns will be for available in my shop tonight. :)
